I’m obsessed with love, and I happen to think you should be to!

You read that correct, I, a single 33-year-old am obsessed.

But maybe not in the way you’re thinking. I won’t lie to you, I do watch the odd MAFS (married at first sight) – don’t judge me, it is fascinating how people respond in social experiments!

When it’s time for me to go to heaven I have a few people in mind who I’d like to spend time with.

  1. Jonathan. I’m so intrigued by him, he must have loved David so much to have given up all that he did for his friend. He was the ultimate bestie and I’d love to find out how he navigated that. But when I think about it truly, he did what he did because of his love for God.

  2. The friends who carried their mate on the mat, through the roof to Jesus. (Luke 5:17-25). The boldness they had to make a hole in the roof! Did they give their friend a choice of a ride to Jesus?! Did they make the hole good afterwards?! I have so many questions. But mainly, I’m in awe of how well they loved their friend.

I think I love these scriptural examples of friendship so much because it encapsulates my favourite scripture in the message,

Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behaviour from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us.

His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that. Ephesians 5.1-2

I hope you have people in your world who teach you about the love of Christ, by showing you, without cation, with extravagance, without expecting anything in return.

When I think of my bestie, I hope I can show love like Jonathan, I deeply hope I can be the friend who pushes her forward, who gets out of the way, who lifts her up and who celebrates her. I hope I can have the tenacity of those friends who carried their friend to Jesus, who teared open a roof, I hope I don’t hold back, that I become more and more extravagant without caution in my love. I pray that my love reveals the heart of Christ.
