Jesus in Everything

What does it mean to have Jesus in everything? Is that really possible? When I’m home washing the dishes or having coffee with a friend? I can’t pretend that I haven’t struggled at times to keep Jesus at the central point of my life or even understanding how to do so. Romans 11:38 says “For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.”, therefore if all things are from Him and for Him, how much do we have an obligation to bring Him into all things. Even the thing we believe that He “won’t care about” or “aren’t really that important”. God cares about all aspects of your life and has a desire for you to live an abundant life (John 10:10) which becomes more abundant the more of it you bring to Him.

Dr Elspeth Darley in a sermon preached at C3 spoke about how upon entering a coffee shop asked the Lord how she could use her time with a coffee to glorify Him and received a prompting to have a conversation with a lady she had bumped into that she had been distantly connected with. This conversation allowed her to pray for this lady who had been going through a challenging time. We never know the impact we could have on a life with Christ alongside us if we don’t invite him in. In the moments when you are frustrated with a difficult task at work, we have an opportunity to invite Jesus in. To ask Him for revelation, help, or maybe just the patience to get through. Maybe keeping Jesus at the centre of your friendships has been hard because you’re the only believer in your friend group. You have the opportunity to continue to seek Him for the salvation of your community, to extend invitations to church, or maybe it’s as simple as extending the love and kindness of Jesus and being light and salt in those relationships. Maybe it’s been hard to envision what keeping Christ at the centre of your relationship looks like because you haven’t seen it demonstrated, maybe for you that means asking Him how to ensure that He is your first priority above all else. Keeping Jesus in everything has to be intentional though, it doesn’t happen miraculously, but by making the choice to ensure that He is leader and Lord of your life in all areas.

Prayer:

King Jesus, may I be aware of your presence in all things. May I seek your desires for me in all things, whether at work, at home, in both the busy and the mundane. May you be a central part of my relationships, whether with a boyfriend or husband, my friends, my colleagues and my family. Lord, in the midst of a life where other things can so easily take priority, may You continue to be my first love and the centre of my world. Help me to recognise you working in every situation and to have the confidence to know that You are always working all things together for my good. Where I haven’t made space for You in all areas of my life, I pray Holy Spirit that you bring these to my attention and help me to recognise how I can better glorify you in it. May others around me begin to see You in their world because of Your work through me. Help me to be submitted to Your will and Your way.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen
